In Yerevan, there are two distinct and highly-regarded history museums. The History Museum of Armenia serves as the national museum for the entire country, while the Yerevan History Museum focuses specifically on the development of the capital city.

History Museum of Armenia

Located in the heart of the city at Republic Square, this is the country's premier historical institution.

• Collection: Houses over 400,000 objects ranging from prehistoric times to the present day. Key highlights include a 3rd–2nd millennium BC bronze collection and the cuneiform inscription from 782 BC documenting the founding of the Erebuni fortress.

• Must-See: The museum is famous for housing the world's oldest leather shoe (approx. 5,500 years old) and ancient wooden chariots from Lchashen.

• Location: Republic Square 4, Yerevan.

• Hours: Tuesday–Saturday (11:00 AM – 6:00 PM), Sunday (11:00 AM – 5:00 PM). Closed Mondays.

• Admission: ~2,500 AMD; children under 12 are free.

Yerevan History Museum

Housed within the Yerevan Municipality building, this museum focuses exclusively on the history of Yerevan from its earliest settlements to the modern metropolis.

• Collection: Over 98,000 exhibits, including ancient tools, weapons, and detailed photographic archives of the city's changing architecture.

• Unique Exhibits: Features immersive panoramic dioramas and meticulous recreations of traditional Yerevan rooms from past centuries.

• Location: Argishti St 1/1, Yerevan (near the Noy Brandy Factory).

• Hours: Monday–Saturday (11:00 AM – 5:30 PM). Closed Sundays and national holidays.

• Admission: ~1,500 AMD for adults. English guided tours are available for approximately 5,000 AMD.
